Mrs. Beatty has been employed with Brunswick County Schools for 10 years. She has been an educator for over 30 years having served as a classroom teacher, assistant principal, principal, and Executive Director of Teacher and Administrative Support in Human Resources.

 

Mrs. Beatty served as Brunswick County Schools’ Principal of the Year for 2006 -2007.

Current supervisory responsibilities and general management duties: school nurses, immunizations, school social workers, school guidance counselors, school resource officers, crisis response team, Section 504, dropout prevention, School Health Advisory Committee (SHAC), homeless education services, general education homebound services, Teaching Fellows, district ombudsman, District Project Manager for the Race to the Top (RttT) Grant, school district liaison for the Brunswick County JCPC and Child Fatality Prevention Team.

 


Freyja CahillFreyja Cahill, Executive Finance Officer

Mrs. Cahill has been employed by the Brunswick County Board of Education for 7 years and brings 15 years of experience in school finance.

She provides direct supervision over the staff in the finance department.  She is responsible for managing the fiscal affairs of a school system through the installation and maintenance of an integrated system to plan fiscal needs and to ensure valid disclosure of receipts and disbursements.

Mrs. Cahill holds a BS degree in Accounting from the University of North Carolina Wilmington. She is also a Certified Public Accountant (CPA).

Professional memberships include the North Carolina Association of School Business Officials, North Carolina Association of Certified Public Accountants and Government Finance Officers Association.

She and her husband Steve live in Castle Hayne and have two sons. She enjoys spending time with family, reading, snow skiing, traveling and her dogs.

Deanne MeadowsDeanne Meadows, Ed.D., Assistant Superintendent/Chief Academic Officer

Dr. Meadows has been employed by the Brunswick County Board of Education since 1999 and has over 20 years experience in education.  She is responsible for the direct supervision and general management of the Department of Human Resources.

Dr. Meadows has a BA in Education, a MA in School Administration and recently received her Doctorate of Education.  She has served as a math teacher, assistant principal, principal and executive director. 

Dr. Meadows has participated in professional development through LPAP by Principals Executive Program, US Japan Global Partnership with UNCW, SRA Direct Instruction with UNCW, Student Centered Instruction by Ventures Education System, Progress Energy Leadership Program and Leadership for Instructional Reform by PEP.

She is a member of the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, the North Carolina Association of School Administrators, the National Association of Secondary School Principals, the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, and Personnel Administrators of North Carolina.


Stephen MileyStephen Miley, Executive Director of Operations

Mr. Miley has been employed by the Brunswick County Board of Education for more than 8 years.

He is responsible for the direct supervision and general management of  facilities, capital projects and planning, transportation, technology, and child nutrition.

Mr. Miley holds a BSCE from the University of New Haven. He has more than 40 years of progressive success and experience in the areas of commercial and institutional development and construction as well as site planning and development and organizational management. He has worked in the public school, healthcare, pharmaceutical research facility, hospitality and residential multi-family arenas and has a proven track record in budget and portfolio management. Mr. Miley is an accomplished leader of multi-discipline, diverse teams.

He serves on the Brunswick County Local Emergency Planning Committee and the Board of Directors for Brunswick Housing Opportunities. He is an active member of the Council of Educational Facility Planners International, the National Fire Protection Association (Education Section), the Association of School Business Officials and the North Carolina Association of School Administrators.

Mr. Miley is a resident of Southport, NC. He and his wife are avid boaters and beach combers.

Jessica SwenckiJessica B. Swencki, Director of Quality Assurance & Community Engagement

Mrs. Swencki has been employed by the Brunswick County Board of Education for 7 of her 19 years as a North Carolina educator.

In addition to serving as spokeswoman for the system, she is responsible for continuous improvement efforts that sustain district accreditation.  She coordinates system strategic planning, division and school improvement planning, and ongoing monitoring efforts which include annual school quality assurance reviews and quarterly coaching sessions. She is responsible for coordination and implementation of internal and external system communications efforts including website management, media relations, community engagement, and publications.

Mrs. Swencki has a BA in Special Education with a concentration in behavioral/emotional disorders and learning disabilities and a Masters in School Administration, both from UNC Wilmington.  She is an alumnus of the North Carolina Teaching Fellows and Principal Fellows programs.  She has served as a special education teacher, assistant principal, exceptional children program director, and regional special education consultant for the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction. 

Mrs. Swencki is a member of the National School Public Relations Association, North Carolina School Public Relations Association, and North Carolina Association of School Administrators.
