	KEYS Program Inducts New Recruits

The SMS KEYS program inducted 37 new recruits in a ceremony on September 30th. In its second year, the KEYS program stresses teaching youngsters the tools they need to be successful. It is hoped that once students master these skills, they will in turn use these skills and become role models for their fellow students.


	Report Card Release Date

Shallotte Middle School will issue 2nd nine weeks report cards for students on Tuesday Febraury 2nd.


	SMS Tip Line Up and Running

The SMS Tip line is now up and running. Last week students were given information regarding a new program that we are implementing here at SMS. With the help of our school resource officer, Deputy John Rogers, we now have a crime stoppers tip line that the students can use. The tip line can be acessed via a text message from a cell phone or an email can be sent to the tip line. It is our hope that students will use the tip line to let us know of improper or illegal activity that may be happening in our school. Please be assured that all tips will be kept anonymous. Students can access the tip line via text or email at SMStipline@live.com. If you have any questions regarding the tip line, please call Ms. Shaw here at school.


	2008-2009 NC School Report Cards Released

The 2008-2009 North Carolina School report cards have been released. The report cards were sent home with student report cards on November 5th. Report Cards can also be viewed on line through the DPI site and can be linked via the BCS homepage.


	SMS Athletic Booster Club

The SMS Athletic Booster Club is looking to add members for the 2009-2010 school year. The booster club works to ensure that our student athletes have all the tools available to compete at the highest levels and that SMS Athletics is second to none. If you have any questions or would like to join the booster club, please contact Athletic Director Bridget Vaccaro here at school and she will put you in contact with booster club president Tracy Farmer.


	Study Island

Study Island is available for student use. Study Island is an excellent tool to help students practice skills they will need to be able to use this school year and on EOG's. Please see your child's team for information about how to log in and use this amazing tool.


	Project Do Something Kicks off at SMS

The 2009-2010 Project Do Something has kicked off at SMS. Students are asked to take time to give back to their school, community, and country by doing acts of service. Through this, we hope not only to teach students the values of service, but to make our "One American Community" (See Purpose, Path, and Plan) a better place in which to live.
