Welcome to Town Creek Elementary School!
Happy Holidays! The leaves are falling and so are the temperatures. We are moving into the middle of the 2nd 9-weeks and students are busy learning. Our holiday break is just around the corner, giving, students, parents, and staff a well deserved opportunity for rest, relaxation, and a chance to enjoy spending time with friends and families.
Please encourage your child to continue to read each night, even on weekends and holidays. Our "50 Nights of Reading" celebration is just around the corner for those students who have met this level. It's not too late for your child to catch up and be able to participate in the "100 Nights of Reading" celebration planned for the end of the school year. Reading is a great opportunity to spend some quality time with your child. Ask your child's teacher for suggestions on how to work with your child to improve their reading fluency and comprehension. Being a fluenct read is vital to a student's success.
Having students at school as much as possible is also just as important to student success. It is important for parents to have their child at school on time each day for the entire school day. Teachers work diligently to prepare lessons and activities that integrate multiple content areas on a daily basis. Missing just 5 minutes of school each day adds up to 30 minutes of lost instruction for your child. An entire day equals 7 and a half hours of instruction. The new standards require students to demonstrate what they know so make-up work for students to complete at home does not compare to what is happening in the classroom.
Please feel free to contact me at all if I can be of any assistance. Have a safe and happy holiday season and enjoy your break!
