Welcome back to Town Creek Elementary School!
The new academic year brings with it a change in instructional content with the implementation of Common Core and Essential Standards, a new system of measuring accountability and achievement of students, as well as many new rewards. There will be new teachers to meet, new books to read, new friends to meet, new skills to master — and I hope that you will be able to share in these exciting times.
Students in 1st through 5th grades and Pre-K will begin school on Monday, August 27, 2012.Students starting Kindergarten this year will begin on a staggered enrollment schedule.No kindergarten students attend school on August 27, 2012.Kindergarten students, whose last names begin with A-J, will report on Tuesday, August 28, 2012 for screening and stay at home on August 29, 2012.Kindergarten students whose last names begin the letters K – Z will report on August 29, 2012. Parents will receive a call from their child’s classroom teacher on Tuesday afternoon, August 29, 2012. All Kindergarten students will come to school on August 30, 2012.Kindergarten teachers will provide specific information to you during Open House.
The instructional day will begin at 8:00 a.m. and end at 3:00 p.m. each day.Please help us in protecting instructional time by ensuring your child arrives to school no later than 7:55 each morning.It is imperative that no students arrive on campus before 7:30 each morning or leave campus prior to 3:00 each afternoon.All students arriving on campus between 7:30 and 7:50 must report to the gym.The student drop-off and pick-up area is located in front of the gym/cafeteria entrance doors.Adult supervision will be provided each morning and afternoon.Please remain in your vehicle during drop-off and pick-up times.If you desire to walk your child to class or must speak with your child’s teacher, please park in the area designated for visitors or available spaces in the lot closest to the main entrance.Use extreme caution when driving or walking on campus.If driving, please do not exceed the SPEED LIMIT…5 MPH.All zones on campus are NO passing zones.Safety must be our number one priority.
Open House will be held on Thursday, August 23rd from 4:30-6:30.Your child is assigned to the homeroom teacher identified at the bottom of this letter.However, your child may receive instruction from any of the teachers and instructional assistants in his/her grade level or any teacher and/or support staff in the school, based on academic needs.My door is always open and I welcome the chance to assist in any way I can.Thank you in advance for your support and commitment to your child's education during the 2012-2013 school year.
