Students in our journalism class will be working on the SMS school newspaper
,
Pirates' Plank
, and a smaller newsletter-type publication throughout the school year.
Our goals are:
-
to produce a quality school newspaper, published quarterly, for our students, faculty, and SMS family
-
to produce a monthly online newsletter to keep our students and their families, our faculty, and the community informed about what's happening at Shallotte Middle School
Students will learn the foundations of news writing and editing, newspaper layout and publishing, and the responsibilities that go along with news reporting and putting together a quality news publication. SMS journalists will serve as researchers, copy-writers, editors, and designers for
Pirates' Plank
and for the more-frequently produced newsletter.
