Per statewide order from Governor Roy Cooper, Brunswick County Schools will be closed beginning Monday, March 16th, until March 30th, 2020.
This is an evolving situation and we are dedicated to making sure students remain healthy and engaged during this time frame.

AFTER SCHOOL ACTIVITIES:  Beginning March 16th, 2020 until April 6th, 2020, all after school activities at all schools are canceled.  Please contact your individual school if you have a question regarding an event/activity.  The High School Proms are located off campus and are voluntary for students to attend.  As of right now, High School Proms will still take place.

ALL SPORTS: The NCHSAA Board of Directors has moved to suspend interscholastic athletics beginning at 11:59 p.m. on Friday, March 13, 2020 through Monday, April 6th, 2020. The NCHSAA Board of Directors will assess this situation regularly over the next few weeks. This includes all workouts, skill development, practices and contests.  Brunswick County Schools will follow the same guidelines for our middle school athletics.  All middle school athletics will be suspended beginning at 11:59 pm on Friday, March 13, 2020 through Monday, April 6, 2020.  This includes all activities related to athletics including games, practice, training, conditioning, etc.

VOLUNTEERS/VISITORS:  In order to protect our valued volunteers, many of whom fall into the at-risk category based on recommendations from the CDC, volunteer services are being suspended until April 6th, 2020.  The only visitors allowed inside schools are parents/guardians who are checking in or out students or attending a scheduled meeting, until April 6th, 2020.  We are grateful for the continued community support and understanding to ensure all students, staff, and community members are safe.

Welcome to South Brunswick Middle School!

  • Welcome to South Brunswick Middle School’s website. We thank you for visiting Cougar Country!  SBMS is located in Southport, North Carolina and we proudly serve approximately 750 students in grades 6-8.  Education is essential for our children so that they can have options in life.  Educational achievement requires persistence, dedication, and effort.  Working together with families, we hope to provide a school environment that encourages the best of all of our students.  For us, failure will not be an option.
