Greetings Dolphin Families,
Welcome to Union, "Home of the Dolphins". Our school serves 600 students from the Shallotte and Ocean Isle Beach communities. We strive to educate the hearts and minds of our students through PBIS (Positive Behavior and Support) and excellent instruction by our highly qualified staff in academics as well as the arts. Dolphin PRIDE is evident as you tour our school and talk with students and staff. Our school hosts over 100 volunteers from the community who share our philosophy that our children come first as they read, eat lunch, and work with students each week. Friendly faces greet every student in the car rider line or bus parking lot to wish them a great day or safe travels home. There is no mistaking the family atmosphere in our school!
High quality instruction is reflected in our state test scores the past 10 years. Our school has been recognized by the state as a Title 1 Reward School for the past 5 years, was named the 2017 NC National Title 1 Distinguished School for Sustained High Performance, and is currently nominated as a National Blue Ribbon School. Our teachers plan rigorous lessons and use a variety of methods to meet the needs of our students to make learning engaging and fun! Speaking of engaging, each classrooms is dressed in the very latest technology including a Smartboard, Ipads, and Chromebooks. With the help of our AWESOME PTO, every student in grades 2-5 has their own assigned Chromebook to use at school. Our teachers continue to write and receive grants for such things as Ipads, STEM activity kits, Alive Studios augmented reality phonics program, alternative seating, and math games. We are happy to announce this year that we have added a STEM class that students will attend twice a month to learn more about science, technology, engineering and math. Our staff truly goes above and beyond to help students be successful. We are so thankful for the support of our parents and community.
Come and visit us to see why "The Sun is Always Shining at Union!".
