Ms. Smith's class

  • Mrs. Smith's class & Mrs. Jennings's science classes learned about sound during the second nine weeks.  Her classes used the engineering design process to design and create musical instruments out of recycled materials.  The students followed a rubric and had to present to their class what they created along with any improvements that they would make as the last step of the engineering design process.  They did a great job!   

  • SMS 8th grade visited Ft. Anderson.

    Fort Anderson is a major pre-Revolutionary port on North Carolina's Cape Fear River, Brunswick was razed by British troops in 1776 and never rebuilt. During the Civil War, Fort Anderson was constructed atop the old village site, and served as part of the Cape Fear River defenses below Wilmington before the fall of the Confederacy.
  • Mrs. Sharpe's class completed their culminating station activities after reading the novel "I Am Malala"

  • Students from Mrs. Cheek’s and Mrs. DelGotto’s ELA classroom are participating in student-led, small, guided reading groups.
  • Pounding pigments
    Mrs. Smith and Mrs. Jennings took a group of 6th grade students from Shallotte Middle School to Sci Fest. The pictures show students making rainbows and making their boats to sail with dish detergent. They also made escape hatches. Another activity they participated in was making rockets and painting butterflies with special paint.

  • Mrs. Barker's art class makes string and nail art. Thank you to Lowe's Home Improvement in Shallotte for donating the small hammers for the class.

  • SMS students were allowed to participate in the Rotary Club Essay Contest. 14 students accepted the challenge. The Rotary Club awarded the participating students with a doughnut brunch and certificates. The winner of the contest was Isla Kinlaw..
