Waccamaw Eagles FLL
Introducing the Quik Kat Shower App
Reported by Adrianna Coveyou
Our project this year focuses around water conservation and how important it is that we save all the water we can. Only so much freshwater exists on our planet and we must respect that. Therefore, we've created a system to decrease the amount of water that is wasted. I'd like to introduce you to our water saving app, "Quik Kat". This app tracks the amount of time you take in the shower and this way, you can now track the amount of money and water you're saving from going down the drain.

Students and staff at Waccamaw have signed up to be Quik Kats and promise to reduce their time in the shower.

The team competed at the State FLL Tournament at North Carolina A&T on January 20, 2018. Between snow ball fights the team managed to improve their robot game score by the end of the afternoon. Three out of the 60 teams that competed became eligible to compete at one of the national or world Lego events. Unfortunately, the Eagles did not place in the top three, but we will continue sharing our app and promoting water conservation.
O’Reilly Auto Parts of Shallotte recently donated toolkits and a detailing bucket. The team raffled off the bucket to help fund its trip to the FLL State Tournament. Coaches Ben Chapman and Meg Zeng appreciate the support of O’Reilly’s Manager Andrew Kellerman and Assistant Manager Mandy Galvin, a former Waccamaw student. Communities in Schools Success Coach Amber Malave arranged the partnership. The winner of the bucket was Jason Wilkes pictured here with team member Dallas Russ.
AVID Sells Santa-Grams
The team thanks Ms. Zeng and the AVID students for selling Santa-Grams during their lunch periods. Also, thanks to all of you who purchased Santa-Grams. The fundraiser was a great success.
