Shallotte Community Member Volunteering at SMS
7th grade students were fortunate to have Mr. Jerry Pocius provide a brief introduction on the Holocaust. He spoke about his visit to Auschwitz and meeting Holocaust survivors. Mr. Pocius not only provided information about this very important part of history but connected concepts to the present day. His presentation, knowledge, and delivery really drove home the importance of why we learn about the Holocaust. He will be returning with some authentic physical artifacts from this time period for another presentation. Thank you Mr Pocius for your knowledge and time.
Our very talented art teacher, Mrs. Roldan, was selected by the Bellinger Foundation to receive $500.00 to use for visual art supplies and materials or for a special visual art school project this school year. Roseann and Ray Bellinger with the Bellinger Foundation wanted to honor her superior work with the arts and the children of Brunswick County by presenting $500.00 checks to our art program. This art award presentation was held at the Board of Education building at the County Complex on Dec. 17th.
Teachers, you can earn rewards from Staples with the help of your students' parents. Teachers and parents click here for more information.

Shallotte Middle School is located in the small town of Shallotte, North Carolina, with a population of about 4,100. Our school is 33 miles from Wilmington and 38 miles from Myrtle Beach, but only about 10 minutes from our beautiful beaches!
Shallotte Middle was built in 1972, replacing the old Shallotte High School. Our highly qualified staff serves approximately 650 6-8th graders. In addition to regular academic classes, we offer art, PE, band, chorus, CTE courses and the only handbell program in Brunswick County Schools. Students in good academic and behavioral standing can participate in a variety of in-school and after school clubs and sports.
Pirate students are expected to show Pirate Pride at all times; working to capacity, treating each other and our school building and campus with respect, and engaging in learning with both their hearts and minds. Our Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) program supports students through “the teaching of proactive strategies for defining, teaching and supporting appropriate student behaviors to create positive school environments.” We want our students to be safe and happy each and every day at school.
Please visit our webpage and Facebook page often. We keep them updated with the latest activities and information. Also, I send out a Sunday night message to remind you of upcoming events. If you have time, come volunteer at school. We want our families to become part of our school family as we work together to educate our children.
Again, on behalf of the Pirate staff, welcome to Shallotte Middle - home of Pirate Pride!
