What is the BOG?

What is Read to Achieve?
Posted by:“Read to Achieve” is a North Carolina legislative act that states: All students must be proficient readers by the end of third grade. In other words, your child must read on a third grade level by the end of this school year in order to be promoted to the fourth grade. Students are given a series of passages for eleven different standards to create a reading portfolio.

What is the CogAT?
Posted by:Third grade students take a Cognitive Abilities Test in the spring. This test measures academic intelligence using reading, math, and quantitative tasks. Students do not need to study for this test.

What is a pathway?
Posted by:Third graders must meet one of the following pathways to qualify for fourth grade:
a. They may pass the Reading EOG at the end of the year.
b. They may reach a designated score for mClass Dibels (a NC reading assessment tool).
c. They may reach a designated score on iReady reading.
d. They may complete a Read to Achieve portfolio including eleven NC reading standards.
