The behavior is repeated, or has the potential to be repeated, over time.” Bullying behaviors are categorized in three primary types: verbal bullying, social bullying, and physical bullying. “Actions such as making threats, spreading rumors, attacking someone physically or verbally, and excluding someone from a group on purpose” are all examples of bullying.  If you feel you or someone is being bullied please take some time to fill out the "Bullying Incident Reporting Form" under "Quick Links".

  • SHALLOTTE MIDDLE ARRIVAL AND DISMISSAL

Parents wishing to change their child’s mode of afternoon transportation will need to send a note by their child to school the day of the change, or they can
email Dr. Hargrove at rhargrove@bcswan.net or

send a fax 910-754-3108 before 10:00 a.m. the day of the change.

Calling the school office to make changes in afternoon transportation will not be allowed this year.

An ID will be required to check a student out.

Beginning of the School Day- Parents/Guardians who bring their children to school are asked to drop them off in the traffic circle at the front entrance of the school. There is no supervision of students before 7:30 in the morning, so do not drop students off early.
At 7:30 SMS staff members will assist with traffic.
Your cooperation and patience is needed.

End of the School Day- at dismissal, car riders are asked to report to the traffic circle in front of the building to be picked up. Staff members will assist with traffic control and student monitoring. Staff members will direct you to pull forward in the traffic circle. Students not picked up right away will return to the lobby to await pick up. Students will need to be picked up by 3:00 p.m.
Students should be in their classrooms and ready to begin their day at 7:55 a.m. sharp. Students arriving to class after 7:55 a.m. are considered tardy. The school will open for student entry at 7:30 a.m.
Students arriving from 7:30-7:40 will report to the cafeteria.
At 7:40 students will proceed to homeroom to get organized for the day.

The excused reasons for tardy are:
1.Doctor/Dentist appointments with a note upon return.
    2. A late bus
    3. Court appearance
    4. Student's personal injury or illness
    5. Quarantine of the student as ordered by health dept.
    6. Death in immediate family (extent ruled upon by principal)

Welcome to Shallotte Middle School - home of the Pirates!

  •

Shallotte Middle School is located in the small town of Shallotte, North Carolina, with a population of about 4,100. Our school is 33 miles from Wilmington and 38 miles from Myrtle Beach, but only about 10 minutes from our beautiful beaches!

Shallotte Middle was built in 1972, replacing the old Shallotte High School. Our highly qualified staff serves approximately 650 6-8th graders. In addition to regular academic classes, we offer art, PE, band, chorus, CTE courses and the only handbell program in Brunswick County Schools. Students in good academic and behavioral standing can participate in a variety of in-school and after school clubs and sports.

We are fortunate to have Communities in Schools support through a Success Coach position and an after-school program. CIS also offered a summer program for our students this year.

Pirate students are expected to show Pirate Pride at all times; working to capacity, treating each other and our school building and campus with respect, and engaging in learning with both their hearts and minds. Our Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) program supports students through “the teaching of proactive strategies for defining, teaching and supporting appropriate student behaviors to create positive school environments.” We want our students to be safe and happy each and every day at school.

Please visit our webpage and Facebook page often. We keep them updated with the latest activities and information. Also, I send out a Sunday night message to remind you of upcoming events. If you have time, come volunteer at school. We want our families to become part of our school family as we work together to educate our children.

Again, on behalf of the Pirate staff, welcome to Shallotte Middle - home of Pirate Pride!

    Marie Laboy, Principal
