CIS Waccamaw Success Coach Mrs. Amber Malave

Hello parents and families,

Thank you for visiting the Communities In Schools (CIS) department page for Waccamaw School. I am honored to be a part of the Waccamaw family. I am currently serving my 6th year as Waccamaw's Success Coach.

What is a Success Coach you may ask? Well, a Success Coach focuses on helping students develop self-help skills through the use of individual and group-based supports, provides programs school-wide to help improve school climate, and works with local community members to bring in resources to the community in which they serve.

The program that I manage at Waccamaw is called the Action for Success Drop Out Prevention Program. Under that program title, I continuously adapt to the needs of the Waccamaw community and specialize in providing academic and social-emotional learning programs for students from Kindergarten through 8th-grade. I typically maintain a caseload of 40 to 60 students that I directly interact with on a weekly basis. I also hold school-wide events and provide evidence-based programs that focus on attendance, coursework, basic needs, literacy, and social-emotional learning.

The tabs to the left (on this department page) are examples of programs and types of supports that I am currently providing for the 2021-2022 school year. Please be sure to read the Newsletters posted to see further details and to stay up to date on CIS program changes for Waccamaw. The tabs are updated regularly to help you stay connected.

"CIS believes that every student, regardless of race, gender, ability, zip code, or socioeconomic background has what they need to realize their full potential in school and beyond. As a Success Coach, I walk by your child's side, advocate on behalf of the Ash community with stakeholders, and consistently work towards breaking down barriers that could impact the success of Waccamaw students and families." A little about myself… I have worked with Communities In Schools for 13 years. North Carolina is not where I was born but it is where my heart resides. My hobbies include swimming, hiking, and writing. I recently just conquered 82 miles of the Appalachian Trail and one day want to complete the entire path. I have a handsome and intelligent 9-year-old who keeps me on my toes. My professional background includes customer service, security, military, psychology, and human services.

I look forward to serving the Waccamaw community this year. If you are interested in learning more about what supports the CIS Action for Success Program at Waccamaw provides feel free to contact me between 7:15 a.m. and 3:45 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Together we can strive, achieve, believe, and overcome!
