    If you are a beginning teacher and new to Brunswick County Schools, we are excited to have you start your teaching career here with us!

    Brunswick County Schools’ Vision is to have “a community of well-educated, employable, and socially responsible citizens.”  Our Mission is “to produce college and career ready high school graduates.” With our focus on growing students from crayons to college and career readiness, we take pride in supporting and growing our faculty and staff.  It takes a village to raise a child, and every child in Brunswick County Schools matters!

    In our Here We Grow! 2019-2024 Strategic Plan, Goal 3 states that “Every student, every day has excellent educators.”  The District Beginning Teacher Support Team and every school Beginning Teacher Support Team is here to help every new teacher grow into an effective teacher who changes the lives of every child in his/her class.  

    The Beginning Teacher Program begins with a 3-day professional development induction designed to welcome new teachers to Brunswick County Schools, promote strong instructional and classroom practices and to grow every educator where he/she is.  Each Beginning Teacher is provided an on-site mentor to support their professional growth journey.  In addition, each school site has a site coordinator who organizes monthly site specific growth opportunities. And, the district BT coordinator is here to support every beginning teacher, mentor and site coordinator.  Our Beginning Teacher Support Team is here to support beginning teachers in their professional journal as they work to provide personalized learning for the students in Brunswick County.  

    Brunswick County Schools has digitized much of its BTSP program with the primary learning management system being housed in Google Classroom.  This allows both face-to-face and online collaboration, training and professional learning.  While the Beginning Teacher portfolio, files and information are uploaded to Google Classroom, it is highly recommended that each teacher maintain individual files.  BTs should see their school BT Coordinator for information on accessing your school's BT Google Classroom.

Department News

  • Congratulations to our BCS Beginning Teachers! 


    Oh what a year you have had!  You came in strong, focused on planning lessons based on the NC State Standards and your students' needs.  You set up classroom management systems to maximize learning time.  You engaged students in rigorous and relevant learning experiences.  Kudos!  You also experienced the loss of student days due to Hurricane Dorian and  what it is like to welcome students back to continue their year of learning.  And, most recently, you dug in to provide remote teaching and learning to our students during the stay-at-home phase of COVID-19.  What a year!  But you made it! 


    Take time to reflect on what went well, what areas you tweaked and will continue to work on, and how to make next year better than this year.  Your school team and your district team are here for you whether you are finishing the BT program or going into year 2 or 3.
