Welcome to Brunswick Virtual Academy

Brunswick Virtual Academy (BVA) is a specialized program of choice within Brunswick County Schools designed for Grades 1-12 students who thrive in a digital environment. Our model is defined as a remote academy where instruction is provided primarily online through a strategic combination of synchronous (live) and asynchronous (independent) methods.

To be eligible for the Brunswick Virtual Academy (BVA), applicants must meet both of the following criteria:

Residency: You must currently live in Brunswick County.
Outside Enrollment: You must provide proof that you were enrolled in a homeschool, private school, or charter school during the 2025–2026 school year.

Note: Students currently enrolled in Brunswick County Schools (BCS) are not eligible at this time.

During the first year of implementation, BVA will prioritize enrollment for middle and high school students. Elementary students may apply; however, acceptance at the elementary level will depend on overall interest across all three grade spans and available staffing. As enrollment grows and staffing increases, the district will continue evaluating opportunities to expand access.

Understanding the BVA Commitment

Who Qualifies?

Admission is based on residency, academic standing, and a commitment to the virtual learning model.

All applicants must reside within Brunswick County, and residency will be verified prior to enrollment.
If a student requires specialized services not offered by BVA, enrollment in their districted BCS school is recommended to ensure their individual needs are fully met.
A recommended GPA of 2.0 or higher is preferred for initial acceptance for high schoolers, though individual needs are reviewed for those below this standard.

Enrollment requires a commitment to remain in the program for one full school year. To remain in the program, students must maintain good standing in academics, attendance, and behavior. Students must maintain a passing grade in every course and demonstrate continuous academic progress. Please note that while devices and application access is provided by Brunswick County Schools, BVA families are responsible for providing regular, reliable wireless internet access.

The Family Commitment

Every student must have a designated Learning Coach, their designated parent or guardian, who maintains active communication with BVA staff. A Learning Coach Corner, a virtual hub of resources to empower those supporting BVA learners, will soon be available.

While instruction is remote, all state-mandated testing must be completed in-person at a designated facility. Families are responsible for providing transportation to and from these sessions.

Daily Expectations

Success at Brunswick Virtual Academy requires more than just logging in; it requires active participation, professional communication, and a disciplined daily routine. Both students and their designated Learning Coaches play a vital role in the learning process.

Every school day begins with a mandatory live connection to the BVA community. Students must join a live Google Meet every school day. This session is used for official attendance, daily announcements, and setting the tone for the day's learning. Students then participate in asynchronous instruction throughout the week, working through self-paced modules, projects, and assignments on the Edmentum platform. This requires strong time-management skills to ensure all deadlines are met.

Students will be permitted to participate in Brunswick County Schools athletics.
