BCS Edulog Parent Portal App for Bus Riders!
Exciting News from the BCS Transportation Department!Dear parents and caregivers:You now have access to a new smartphone app to improve communication, school bus safety, and efficiency. The Edulog Parent Portal app provides you with information on the GPS location of your child’s school bus and sends you a push notification when the bus is nearing your bus stop. This app is free of charge to our parents, caregivers, and students. In addition to displaying the location of your bus and sending the notifications, you can also receive time-sensitive messagesfrom our transportation department, such as when a different bus is running the route due to maintenance on your regular bus or when your bus is running late. The Edulog Parent Portal app is provided by Education Logistics, Inc. (Edulog), a premier provider of school bus technology. School bus locations are sent from a GPS device installed on each bus, which not only provides up-to-date information for you, but also for our school bus maintenance staff who need to know the real-time location of each bus for maintenance and other service requirements. This new app can be downloaded from the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store – either of which can be accessed by pointing your smartphone camera at the QR code found on the attached letter.Once you have the app, just add your student(s) and you will haveaccess to their current bus information and be able to track the location of the bus they are assigned to. Since student security and safety is important, you must have their Student ID number and date of birth to register them on the app. Please contact their school if you do not have their ID number. The Parent Portal app is a tool for you to use to find out where your child’s bus is and when it is getting close to their bus stop. If your child is not currently assigned to a bus, please contacttheir school to request transportation. The bus and stop information will appear on the app once they have been assigned. Please know that our goal is to provide safe and efficient transportation for all Brunswick County children riding school buses. By improving communication and expanding the information available to you by implementing this app, we are working hard to meet and exceed that goal.If you have additional questions regarding the app, please contact our Transportation Department at: 910-756-6998.For more information on the Edulog Parent Portal app and how to register, please visit the links below: -

ESSA - Every Student Succeeds Act
The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) requires school districts to notify parents of children attending a Title I (All BCS schools except: NBHS, SBHS, WBHS, BCECHS, and the COAST) school of their right to know the professional qualifications of the classroom teachers who instruct their child.
As a recipient of Title I funds, Brunswick County Schools will provide you with this information in a timely manner if you request it. Specifically, you have the right to request the following information about each of your child’s classroom teachers:
- Whether the teacher meets the state qualifications and licensing criteria for the grades and core academic subjects he or she teaches.
- Whether the teacher is teaching under emergency status because of special circumstances.
- The teacher’s college major, whether the teacher has any advanced degrees, and the field of discipline of the certifications or degree.
- Whether teacher assistants provide services to your child and, if so, their qualifications.
In addition, the law requires that all schools receiving Title I funds provide notification to all of its parents whose children are being taught for four or more weeks by a teacher who is not classified as “Highly Qualified”, regardless of whether or not that teacher is being paid with Title I funds.
Brunswick County Schools is committed to providing quality instruction for all students by employing the most qualified individuals to teach and support each student in the classroom. If you would like to receive any of the information listed above for your child’s teacher, please click here: Teacher/ Teacher Assistant Form and send in as directed.

Dale Cole Selected as new Superintendent of Brunswick County Schools
The Brunswick County Board of Education is excited to announce the selection of Mr. Dale Cole as the next superintendent of Brunswick County Schools. Mr. Cole’s selection was unanimously approved by the Brunswick County Board of Education at its Committee Meeting on Tuesday, May 23, 2023.
“The Board of Education thoughtfully and carefully reviewed applications from a diverse field of 30 excellent candidates,” said Board of Education Chairman Steve Barger. “Although many qualified candidates applied, the Board of Education felt Mr. Cole’s experience, leadership, and dedication to students and staff would best serve Brunswick County Schools’ students, employees, and community for years to come. The Board of Education is confident Mr. Cole will lead our great school system to even higher achievement.”
Mr. Cole has enjoyed a long and very successful career in public education, spanning nearly thirty years in North Carolina. Since 2019, Mr. Cole has served as the superintendent of Clay County Schools. Prior to joining Clay County Schools, Mr. Cole served as Director of Instructional Services, Career and Technical Education, and Testing for Hyde County Schools, School Transformation Coach for the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction - Educator Support Services, Principal (Beaufort County Schools) - Southside High School, Chocowinity Middle School, and P.S. Jones Middle School, Assistant Principal (Beaufort County Schools) - Washington High School, High School English Teacher, and High School football and baseball coach. Mr. Cole was also named the 2013 Wells Fargo North Carolina Principal of the Year.
Mr. Cole has an impressive academic background as well, earning a Bachelor of Science in English Education-Secondary, a Master of Science in School Administration, and an Education Specialist (Ed.S.) degree in Administration and Supervision all from East Carolina University.
Mr. Cole looks forward to the opportunity to lead Brunswick County Schools and to become an active member of the community. Mr. Cole is married to his wife, Kim. The Coles have two daughters, Darah and Delta, and one son, Ty.
“I am so very honored and proud to be selected as the next superintendent of Brunswick County Schools,” Cole said.
Cole has also outlined his vision for the first 90 days as superintendent of Brunswick County Schools, stating:
During my first 90 days in BCS, it is my goal to visit all schools and engage in listening sessions with all staff members, certified and classified. I am encouraged by the fact that in the 2022 NC Teacher Working Conditions Survey, over 80% of our teachers felt that BCS was "a good place to work and learn." However, I would like to see that number move to 90% or better. Our district numbers show that 40-50% of our teachers have concerns with how we use their time, how much influence they have on decision-making, how their professional development is provided, how student conduct is managed, and how the NCTWC survey is used to improve their schools. I will be asking teachers for their specific ideas for improvement in these areas in order to provide a focus for our leadership team. At the same time, I will be carrying out a full review of all safety procedures at all schools, including how we carry out, document results, and continuously improve our fire drill procedures, lock-down drill procedures, tornado drill procedures, etc. Student and staff safety is our first priority, so I will not feel comfortable moving forward in other areas until I have a clear handle on safety for all. I believe that a successful school district will live the following values:
-
a positive and safe working and learning environment
-
high-quality and research-based Instruction in all classrooms every day
-
intentional continuous improvement
-
a growth mindset
-
teamwork
-
leadership by all
-
intentional family and community partnerships
Please join the Brunswick County Board of Education in congratulating and welcoming Mr. Dale Cole as the new superintendent of Brunswick County Schools!
