"Service Above Self" Award Recipients/Nomination Process

Brunswick County Schools Teacher of the Year, Claire Herrington, is introducing a way to honor those who go above and beyond to make our community the best it can be.

"I believe out of tragedy comes triumph. Upon returning to school after Hurricane Florence I became aware of how important individuals are to our school system," Ms. Herrington said. "Thousands of dollars were saved at Southport Elementary School by our head custodian Mr. Gene Knoblauch, going the extra mile to dig trenches, sandbag and tape doors and return the day after the storm to handle flooding and damages. Through his actions I had a light bulb moment and realized we need to recognize all those individuals who regularly put service above self to benefit our school system," she explained.

You can nominate someone via the google form located in the link attached. A handful of individuals will be selected and honored at the monthly School Board meetings.
