Here is The Friday Five for the week of April 1-5:

  • April 2nd BOE Meeting: We highlighted Governor's School Finalist, State Calendar Winners, a National Champion at NBHS, and our phenomenal Child Nutrition Department and Cafeteria Staff.  Public Addresses included two parents on issues of Parent Advisory Council and communications with parents.  Presentations included County Commissioner Pat Sykes talking about "Charters of Freedom", a Digital Learning Update from Acacia Dixon, Director of Instructional Technology, and Teacher of the Year Claire Herrington giving Board Members some Work Day dates teachers would like reserved, if possible, should a natural disaster take away instructional time as Hurricane Florence did. Board Members also discussed better communications with parents, possible changes to committee meetings, and the possibility of an outside firm making a presentation on school redistricting.

  • On Thursday, April 11, at 6:30 PM eight high-school oratory winners will compete for recognition as the District Winners of college scholarships and other awards at the annual Odell & Virginia Williamson Oratory Scholarship Competition.  This is a free event to the public and will be held in Teaching Auditorium A across from the media center in the Main Administrative Building on the campus of BCC.  Please come out and support our outstanding senior orators as they present passionate speeches about various topics.

  • Want to help the SBHS Band and check out cool cars?  SBHS is hosting the Pride of the South Coast Car Show on April 13th.  Registration is 9am-12pm.  Show is 1-5pm . Awards 5-6pm and all proceeds go to the SBHS Band Program.
  • BCS Central Services at 35 Referendum Drive is closed to the public right now while we make major repairs following a water main break.  You can still access all departments by their normal phone line or 910-253-9300, but offices aren't expected to be back to full service until beginning of May.
