At the end of each week, we'll post 5 notes of interest that you might of missed or were mentioned in the Friday phone call. You can sign up for the weekly phone call on Fridays by calling 855-502-7867.
Here is The Friday Five for the week of August 19-23:
- SCHOOL SAFETY: (Campus Crime Tip Line) Brunswick County Schools has partnered with WeTip, Inc to provide an absolutely anonymous Campus Crime Tip Line to students and staff. WeTip operators staff the toll free, nationwide hotlines and internet lines, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The service gives students and their families an opportunity to give information without fear of consequences. Click here for more details. (BCSO Mobile App) Brunswick County Sheriff's Office also has launched a new mobile App where you can receive information and submit community wide tips. Click here for more details. Did you know all of our schools have school resource officers who are certified in crisis intervention and daily role models to our students at all grade levels? Click here for those details!
- BUS SAFETY: (New Bus Stop Guidelines for kindergarten and 1st graders) Bus drivers have been instructed to stop the practice of re-circling past a house to take child home whose guardian was not there at the initial stop. Drivers will pull to safe place as soon as possible and call their supervisor to inform them the student is being transported back to school. Transportation will notify the school so the appropriate school staff can arrange for the child’s pick up at the school. Bus drivers will only release the child to school staff once they return to school grounds. (Stop for Flashing Lights) Please have a little extra patience the first few weeks of school as the community gets used to buses being back on the roads and plan ahead for the daily commutes to be a little longer during the school year. Click here to find your child's bus stop.
- Never pass a school bus with lights flashing engaged on ANY two-lane road in Brunswick County.
- If there is a four-lane road with a median or turning lane separating oncoming traffic, only traffic following the bus must stop.
- If there is no median separation on four-lane roads, both directions must stop.
